Sibling Rivalry

01/31/2012

Dear Jenny,
My children fight every day. They call each other names and recently their sibling rivalry turned into a physical fight. As part of their punishment, I had them write out how they will forgive their sibling. Both children had no idea HOW to forgive. Do you have any suggestions? Sherie W - Washington, PA

I was unable to forgive several experiences until I learned the true definition which is “to let go or untie the person or experience that caused you harm”. Catherine Ponder states, "When you hold resentment toward another, you are bound…

Hi Jenny,
My daughter always seems to have such a pessimistic attitude and often refers to herself as a failure. Any of your "brilliant ideas" that can help her be more positive? Sherie Ward, PA

Cut the Stress

12/05/2011

Dear Jenny,
The holiday's are here and my kids are already getting all wired up. They argue about EVERYTHING and I am so busy, it is difficult and a bit annoying to referee on top of family coming over, parties, shopping, cooking, decorating, etc. etc. etc. How can I cut the stress for me and keep the kids from fighting and treating each other nice.
Thanks, Amanda

Jealous People

Jealous People

Dear Jenny,
How do I help my kids deal with the jealous people that are around us?  My family works very hard to be as successful in all areas of life - personal health, financially, relationships, and within our community.  As we continue to succeed and be our service to others, there are jealous parents and children within the community who create and post lies and create tremendous drama.  What do we do?

The most successful people I know all hold one secret to heart - they surround themselves with other successful people and ask, listen and follow their advice.    Instead of using their energy to learn how to make changes in…

Top reasons children will cry when new to going to school:

Top reasons children will cry when new to going to school:

Jenny,
I have a 22 month old son who still has trouble leaving Mommy every day when I drop him off at daycare.  My husband compares him to the other kids at daycare who seem to transition easier with their parents on the morning drop-off.  My husband and I both work full-time and I went back to work when he was 10 weeks old.  So this has been his routine for quite some time.  I usually drop him off in the morning and most days my husband picks him up.  He is always glad to see me once we all get home in the evening.  During the day, he seems to be happy and loves our sitter like his second Mommy.  He has been going to the same daycare from the start.  My question is, can I do anything to help with his transition when Mommy has to leave him at daycare or a sitter?  Is this a stage he is going through that will hopefully improve with time?  My sitter hosted a pre-Thanksgiving lunch for all of the parents to come and have lunch with their children.  My husband and I were able to attend but had to return to work afterwards.  My son wouldn’t let me out of sight during lunch and had a complete meltdown when I left.  We just want him to be happy and I want to do whatever I can to help him adjust to changes.

Would love your advice on this subject!
Best regards,
Wendi

Toddler Time with Electronics Answer

11/14/2011

Filed Under Baby & Kids Stuff

Dear Jenny,
I have a question regarding my two-year-old son: How much time do you
recommend that I allow my two-year-old to use the iPad throughout the day ?He LOVES to play multiple games on it and is excelling quickly with most of
them. He seems to be quite brilliant in most areas, extremely observant of
EVERYTHING, and is a young child in a home of much older sibling brothers
(ages 13,16 and 22). My husband and I are both older parents (49 and 44)
and professionals (he is a physician and I work in law), but I decided to
close down my office and only work with a few clients out of my home, and it
is so "easy" to put our young son in front of the iPad so we can get our
work done. I am concerned that he will become "addicted" to the electronic
gadgets, just like the teenagers are to the Xbox. What are your thoughts ?

Sincerely,
Sandy Tonkovic
 Wisconsin

Ask, Jenny

Ask, Jenny

Dear Jenny,
My 15 year old son is still angry after being bullied at another school when he was ten years old. We moved four years ago out of state and although he has had no contact he still remains angry. How can he learn to let go?

Bullies are the worst kind of renters in the whole wide world. When we are not paying attention, they sneak into our lives and begin to rent space in our minds. They will play their music loud, invite over all their nasty friends and keep stealing our lives until we learn how to kick them out. To help your child kick them out, please find a story that you can read to them and a few brilliant ideas to try tonight.

The bully within me
A young girl came home angry at a bully that had embarrassed her
at school that afternoon. Seeing her granddaughter distraught, her
grandmother sat her granddaughter down and said, “I have a very
